Ayrshire Unit have successfully negotiated with the owners of a Miller Fifer Motor Cruiser Named Corinella to lease it to the unit for a period of time. The Vessel is a 33ft ketch rigged motor sailor with twin Kelvin engines and a full set of sails, the vessel is docked in Glasson Dock at the moment. She went through a four year rebuild at Troon Marina which concluded about two years ago and was taken to Glasson Dock where it was hoped she would be sold. Unfortunately for the owners but fortunate for the Ayrshire branch this did not happen. In return for the use of Corinella the Ayrshire branch will maintain the vessel in a seaworthy condition and if possible bring her up to DTI standard . If it is possible to bring her to the DTI standard, Central Scotland Sea School will have the use of her and she will be used as a practical training vessel. The vessel will also be used to take youth organisations out on educational, Team building and Training courses. Other units will also have the opportunity to get the use of the vessel as long as the persons minimum qualification is Day Skipper Practical level.
If we are successful in using the vessel in this way, there may be the opportunity to raise funds through grants to buy the vessel and keep her as a training vessel, for the RNXSA Ayrshire and Central Scotland Sea School

HMS SMITER is to visit the Scottish Maritime Museum next May for a weekend , she will be berthed somewhere on the Museums pontoons. The Museums director has written to the RNXSA Ayrshire Branch asking for assistance in making this planned visit happen . We have been asked to take Depth sounding around the pontoons and the river approaches to ensure the Naval Vessel safe arrival and berthing. We will carry out the sounding with dreamer and the Rib using an echo sounding as well as a lead line. ( by the mark!)
